Temple of the Potaraka Doctrine
Temple of the Potaraka Doctrine is one of the Eight Outer Temples of Chengde. The temple was modeled after the Potala Palace of Tibet, the old sanctuary of the Dalai Lama built a century earlier. Hence the Putuo Zongcheng has been nicknamed the "Little Potala Palace". |

Chengde Travel Tips
Chengde is quite laidback compared to nearby Beijing-a nice night out in Chengde might consist of a lengthy dinner with drinks at an outdoor restaurant in the summer. Chengde is also a good place to pick up locally harvested hazelnuts and almonds, as well as mushrooms, nasturtium and wild medicinal herbs, many of which are fairly rare elsewhere. |
