Yiwu, is situated in the center of Zhejiang Province, connected Guangdong and Fujian on the south, and Shanghai on the north. It is 300 km to Shanghai and 120 km to Hangzhou, the capital of Zhejiang. Transportation is convenient with highway and railway connecting most big and medium-sized cities. Over 20 airlines have been opened to big cities like Beijing, Hongkong, Guangzhou, etc. Compared with the other big cites of China, Yiwu is small, but it has the largest commodity market in China. This, along with Yiwu's mild climate has made it a tourism highlight in recent years.
Since reform and opening-up, Yiwu has been sticking to the development strategy of "developing the city on commerce" and has explored a net strategy of promoting regional social and economic development with the flagship of trade and commerce, which helped Yiwu to become a developed county and a city known as being the place where the first international commodities market in China was cultivated.
Yiwu's tourist resources are not as well-known as its prosperous commodity industry. More than 2000 years ago, Yiwu was just a small county, called Wushang. After the year 624, the county got its current name and then in 1988 Yiwu was upgraded to a county-level city. During its long history, a number of famous Chinese were born there, leaving some historical heritages for us to admire in their legendary stories. Beautiful Xiuhu Lake and cliffy Songpu Hill attracted a series of historic poets and scholars who were compelled to express their appreciation of the city's beauty.
Now with the prosperous market, developed economy, stable society, beautiful environment and wealthier community, Yiwu is marching towards becoming a truly world class international commercial city.
