Dear Foring, It was so nice to meet you in your office, and we like the present you have prepared for us! You have provided us with an excellent visit to China. I do have some comments that I would like to share:
Dinning in China Thank you for your arrangement to let us have our lunch at local restaurants rather than the "tourist restaurants". Well, it might be a little bit noisy sometimes, you know, lots of local people, and the restaurants you have included in the itinerary must be some kind of typical or famous ones, some restaurants did not prepare knife or folks, we had to use chopsticks, but that was fine for us.
For the nights that we did not have scheduled dinners, the guides did provide recommendations on local restaurants, this was greatly appreciated and much enjoyed. This might be presented as a possible alternative selection to prospective visitors. Mr. Billy Zeng, Our guide in Guilin helped us to order the food in advance. He took us to a restaurant nearby the hotel we stayed, showed us the pictures on the menus, explained to us what the food was, becuase the restaurant did not have menus writen in English. After we have ordered the food, reserved the table, Billy asked the waitress to give us a restaurant card, with the information of our reserved table on it, and told us how much the cost for this dinner would be. He was really helpful.
Having meals with our tour guides and drivers It would be nice to share lunch or dinner with the guides. We are visiting your country not only to see the sights but to learn about Chinese history and people so it would be great to share a lunch or dinner with the guides to learn about life in your country.
I asked some other passengers on the trip, I found out different explainations for this issue: Some passengers might prefer to have meals by themselves, some told me that their tour guides and driver might also need rest after a whole day work, drivers might not be comfortable to have foods with the guests, and the tour guide and driver might like to have some simple hot local food, tourist might not like their Chinese foods...
In summary, some tourists prefer to be isolated from your culture by simply eating in "tourist restaurants" with the guide in another part of the restaurant and seeing "tourist shows". Others, such as ourselves would rather experience the day-to-day China and visit with the guides as much as possible.
Thanks again for an excellent trip but please consider my suggestions for the future.
