The food served in Suzhou is what we called Huiyang Cuisine, is one of the Eight Major Cuisine in China. Huaiyang cuisine includes dishes from Yangzhou, Zhenjiang, and Huai'an in Jiangsu Province. it focuses on the freshness of ingredients. Huaiyang dishes have a light flavor, retaining the original taste of the ingredients. They also have pleasant colors and pretty shapes.
Famous dishes include beggar's chicken, sweet and sour mandarin fish, chicken pieces with egg white, boiled salted duck, deep-boiled crab meat in clear soup, and steamed shad. Give it a try, you may enjoy it but Westerners often complain that it's too sweet and oily. There are certainly many better gastric options available.
Recommended local restaurants in Suzhou
Farmhouse Restaurant Farmhouse is definitely the right word for the décor in this spacious place. So what if the Filipino band plays the same songs as all of the other bands in town and German food isn't exactly renowned the world over. They have more types of German beer than you can shake a stick at, and the German chef occasionally barbecues an entire pig – the cheeks are the tastiest part. English menu available.

Tian Fu Zhi Le Restaurant The good restaurant is to look for the most crowded ones during mealtime. We found what we were looking for in Tian Fu Zhi Le.we all know regional food changes from place to place to pacify the local yocals. Sichuan cuisine is hot normally, but because we are in Suzhou, the food is also a bit sweet in this restaurant. Take for instance the first dish we ordered, Fried Diced Beef with the Flavor of Glutonous Rice (that's what they called it). It was the best dish of the evening but not a bit spicy. The cubed beef was tender, the glutonous rice (also cubed) chewy, and the pine nuts added a nice crunchy texture to round it off. All were cooked in a slightly sweet sauce. Delish! The Savoury Spicy and Hot Soup was another favorite.
