Dim sum is the big draw at Shen Yue Xuan. It's the featured fare at breakfast and lunch and has its own separate menu. The restaurant's Cantonese-Shanghainese dinner menu has a healthy slant, though the amount of grease often counteracts these efforts.
The two-story restaurant is nestled in Dingxiang Garden, a verdant 35-acre playground the late Qing Dynasty-mandarin Li Hongzhang gave to his concubine Ding Xiang. There's outdoor seating on a large terrace, and the 2nd floor overlooks the garden. Book early if you want a table by the window.
As for nightlife, Dingxiang Garden has a beautiful bar, catering for all tastes. There is also great live music. If you want a bit of a dance, please get dressed up and sip cocktails, you won't be disappointed.
