First built in 1925, Center Street is the most prosperous street in Harbin. It is also an architecture art gallery with the building in many kind of the styles such as Baroque, Eclecticism and so on.
The ChurcCentral Avenue is the old street in Harbin, which is called as a street, the protection of streets, street signs, pedestrian street, building arts Street, the bustling commercial street, tourism and leisure Street, the public cultural Street, is that (the 1930s) the most famous immigrants Street, the most bustling commercial street, Finance Street, Culture Street, foreign banks are on both sides of the Main Street, many shops and restaurants, lots of hotels, dance halls, theater, and restaurants bar. The Street has a Continental European-style architecture. The building embodies the essence ofWestern art of architecture, the whole of Central Avenue building is an art gallery.
Centre street is the cosmopolitan area of Harbin. Centre street, originally named "China street" was created after carts repeatedly transported equipment for constructing railways. In 1928 "China street" was officially renamed "Centre street" and then in 1997 the government decided to change it into a traffic free zone to become the only main walking street in Harbin.
Centre street has more of an internation flavour than the rest of Harbin as it is lined with Russian and European style architecture. Though centre street is often full of shoppers and sightseers it is quite a calming expericene to walk along the tiled road without the worry of traffic weaving around you.
Centre street is a great place to shop for brands you know as there is an array of western style shops to choose from. Although Centre street is a much more expensive to shop and dine, it is a great way to escape the repetitive styles of the chinese buildings and scenery. Walmart can also be found on centre street, stocking an assortment of brands and products you would expect to find at home. At the end of Centre street is Songhua River which freezes in winter and is a playing ground for Chinese families in the summer.
