The province of Shanxi is the birth place of China, and local people cook all kinds of delicious vegetarian foods by wheat, corn, broom corn, pea, buckwheat, soybean sprout, tofu and peanut, and I was told that there are more than 100 kind of different seasoning. Once Patric and I went to a typical local restaurant in Datong.
The Guanglin Vegetarian Restaurant is located in a peaceful neighbour, in the north part of Datong, even the taxi drivers do not known so much of this part of the city. We walked 40 minutes through the Stalin style civilian houses, mostly built in 1950's, stoped to ask local people by showing them the name of the restaurant in Chinese, and eventually we found the place.
It is much cleaner than we expected, and lots of appeties displaying on the buffet table for us to choose! We select some unknown vegetables by pointing the pictures on the menus, order a bottle of local liquor to celebrate the adverture today.
The food is definitely tasty. Chinese people do not eat so much meat in their 5000 enhanced cultural history, they must be very good vegetarian food cookers.
The bill is only RMB 61 (about USD 8) for two persons for this dinner, inclusive of one bottle of 48 degress liquor.
